Magical Christmas concert lights up Peterborough Cathedral

Thomas Deacon Education Trust (TDET), a partnership of seven academies across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, hosted a festive evening of music, carols, and readings last week at Peterborough Cathedral, capturing the festive spirit with outstanding performances from pupils playing to a packed audience, including Mayor of Peterborough, Judy Fox, and a range of distinguished guests, parents and family members.
The concert brought together Gladstone Primary Academy, Queen Katharine Academy, Thomas Deacon Academy, Upwood Primary Academy, Warboys Primary Academy, and Welbourne Primary Academy.
Throughout the evening, the audience was treated to a variety of songs, carols, and readings that celebrated the season, including traditional favourites like ‘Carol of the Bells’, ‘Once in Royal David’s City’, and ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’.
Notable moments included solo performances by pupils of ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ and ‘Hallelujah’, as well as group performances and readings from the Gospels, which retold the story of Jesus’s birth, adding meaning to the evening’s festive atmosphere.

Scott Hudson, Chief Executive of TDET, said afterwards: "It was a wonderful evening – a genuine celebration of Christmas, drawing upon the talents and enthusiasm of pupils and colleagues across the Trust.
“It’s a privilege to hold these events in such a special setting at the heart of our community. Occasions like this bring our values to life and showcase the passion and dedication that our academies live by.”
The concert concluded with the well-loved carol, ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’, followed by a collection in support of Peterborough Cathedral’s work.
Beth Williams, Thomas Deacon Academy’s Head of Music, who organised the event said, “Tonight has been a celebration not only of music, but of community, of joy, and of the spirit of Christmas that unites us all. Our thanks go to all those who made the event such a success, our pupils and colleagues, cathedral staff, technicians and our wonderful audience of parents, family and friends.”
This annual concert is a much-loved tradition for TDET and the local community, marking the start of the festive season.
