The World’s Largest Reading Lesson was successfully attempted by 75 schools around the country who read the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Among those to take part were pupils from Nene Park Academy and the entire Year 8 from The Voyager Academy.

English teacher and Year 8 tutor Christine Townsend, who led the event at Voyager, said: “When we were approached by National Reading Day to take part in their world record attempt we didn’t hesitate, it was an amazing opportunity for our students to be a part of something special.”

Nicola Daintith, responsible for whole school literacy at Voyager, said: “This event was a great chance to show the students how reading, while so often seen as an independent activity, can be a communal, shared experience, where we each follow the characters and story together as well as in our own way.”
