The topping out ceremony, a key stage in any building’s progress, was attended by key stakeholders in the project.

The new building will open in September 2020 when the children and staff relocate from their temporary home at Hampton College Primary Phase.

Cllr Lynne Ayres, Peterborough City Council’s cabinet member for education, said: “As one of the fastest growing cities in the country, the need to create extra school spaces is an urgent one and we are actively working to address this. We are committed to providing sufficient classroom spaces to ensure that the educational needs of children and young people in the city continues to be met.”

Helen Price, executive head teacher of Hampton Academies Trust, which is to run the new free school, said: “The topping out ceremony marks the significant progress Interserve Construction has made in building our new building and means we remain on target to welcome the children to the new building in September. Hampton Academies Trust is an inclusive community-focused trust committed to delivering schools paces to our community.”

Richard Scarrott, divisional director at Interserve Construction, said: “The topping out ceremony brings the new Hampton Lakes Primary School nearer to providing much needed school places for the rapidly growing city of Peterborough and we are delighted to be a part of this.”
