Farmers blockade Tesco Distribution Centre in Peterborough in early morning protest
Farmers in Peterborough have staged an early morning protest outside of a Tesco Distribution Centre.
Protestors prevented lorries from entering or leaving the depot on Staplee Way in Parnwell using tractors from around 4am will into the morning.
The protests mirrored similar action the country in recent days accusing supermarkets of squeezing the prices they pay produces while raising prices for consumers.
Protestors have described the industry as being in ‘absolute turmoil’ and called for higher farmgate prices to be paid as well as tariffs introduced for produce imported into the country.

At the same time the centre in Peterborough was blocked, other groups were staging similar protests in Hinckley and Doncaster.
From Monday afternoon, the centre was still dealing with a backlog of lorries and police were at the scene to assist but no issues were reported.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said: “We are aware of an ongoing peaceful protest at a Tesco distribution centre in Staplee Way, Parnwell, Peterborough.
"Officers have engaged with protestors and Tesco and will be monitoring the situation.”
