Longueville Court Care Home celebrates a cultural fusion of Pancake Day and Chinese New Year

Residents and staff at Longueville court care home came together this week for a vibrant and delicious celebration that combined the traditions of Pancake Day with the festivities of Chinese New Year.
The home was filled with colour, laughter and the wonderful aromas of freshly prepared pancakes as residents enjoyed a unique twist on the traditional Shrove Tuesday treat. Alongside classic sweet pancakes with a variety of toppings, residents were delighted to try a savoury option inspired by Chinese cuisine — tender duck, fresh vegetables and hoisin duck sauce, all served in warm, fluffy pancakes.
The event was designed not only to celebrate Pancake Day but also to embrace the spirit of Chinese New Year, creating a cultural experience that sparked conversation, memories and new tastes. Decorations reflecting Chinese New Year traditions added to the atmosphere, while residents and staff shared stories about past celebrations where they have used a mix of different toppings.
Resident Julie said “ The combination of sweet and savoury flavours proved to be a great success, with many of us keen to go back for seconds”.

The day was a true celebration of flavour, culture and community spirit — one that residents will be talking about long after the last pancake was enjoyed.
Krzysztof Krzysztofiak General Manager for the home said: “Bringing together different cultural celebrations is a wonderful way to create meaningful experiences for our residents. Food has a special way of connecting people, and it was fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves and trying something a little different.”
