Residents at Hickathrift House Care Home came together to celebrate an Oktoberfest style beer and food festival.

The inspired festival originated on October 12, 1810, in celebration of the marriage of the crown Prince of Bavaria, who later became King Louis I, to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen.

Residents at Hickathrift House enjoyed celebrating the world’s largest folk festival by taking part in an authentic German experience, residents enjoyed sampling a range of different ales and themed snacks and meals.

No Oktoberfest celebration would be complete without German beer and plenty of strudel, schnitzel and sausage or bratwurst!

Our brilliant activities team delivered an authentic Oktoberfest experience with food hall bar and we were joined by Debbie for Gratitude 43 arts and crafts who assisted our residents in making their own Oktoberfest plaques.

Paula Merlerski, General Manager at Hickathrift House said: “We all have had a great time celebrating Oktoberfest at the home. Residents and staff enjoyed the delicious traditional foods, and our German residents shared stories of their customs and celebrations involved in celebrating Oktoberfest.”
