Peterborough skyline changes as demolition works on iconic buildings continue

Two major demolition projects in Peterborough have taken large steps forward as the city’s skyline continues to alter.

Work to take the former British Sugar offices in the Sugar Way estate in Woodston down started earlier in lockdown, after plans to turn them into a new supermarket were approved.

Along with the new Lidl store, the plans for the site now include 74 new homes.

The project was delayed after the offices were given listed building status - a decision that has now been reversed.

Almost half of the offices have now been demolished.

The scheme to demolish the old Northminster Car Park in the city has almost concluded. The demolition of the multi-storey – which is said to have reached the end of its life– began in March is due to be completed later in the summer.

During lockdown the works have caused controversy, as work continued through the night on some occasions.

The site is due to be redeveloped with apartments, a new market hall and a replacement car park.
