Delicious Ideas Food Group (DIFG), based in Bakewell Road, Orton Southgate, is trialling some of its products in selected Shell service stations in Germany.

Chief executive Jonathan Potter said: “Healthier snacking in the UK is on the rise, and we’ve been producing healthy options at our packaging factory in Peterborough for many years, so getting a foothold in Europe feels timely.

He added: “Our research shows similar trends are emerging outside the UK right now.”

DIFG is working with its wholesale partner GoFoods as they start to build trade in Europe.

Mr Potter added: “What we’re hoping for is strong uptake, good sales, and subsequent expansion.”

It is hoped if the trial goes well, the snacks and other brands, will be rolled out across about 1,500 service stations in Germany and possibly Austria.

The snacks are displayed in mock ‘street market’ carts placed prominently in the service stations.

Tommy Barbe, managing director of Go Foods, said: “It’s the ideal time to trial this particular range.

“Consumers are looking for new snacking options, not just confectionery sugar fixes, and these products fit the bill.

“Food trends are changing, and trending towards fruit and nut based and vegan and vegetarian produce.

He added: “We’ve timed this initiative to meet the changing mood and so far shoppers are responding well.”
