Former Peterborough bowling alley set for new lease of life with padel courts venture

The Peterborough city centre building that was formerly home to the city’s bowling is to be given a new lease of life.

Padel Star is preparing for its grand opening at Indus House in New Road in October. The building has been closed for a number of years after MFA Bowl closed down close to a decade ago.

This will bring the fast growing sport into the heart of the city centre for the first time.

Located on New Road, Padel Star will feature five state-of-the-art courts, making it the first dedicated city centre padel facility in the area. The venue has been created through the renovation of the former bowling alley site, breathing new life into the space and contributing to the ongoing regeneration of the city’s entertainment district.

In addition to the padel facilities, a stylish cafe has also been promised as well as ample free parking.

Padel Star spokesperson Lora Pizzo said: “This development marks just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the city centre.

"Padel Star is proud to be part of a wider vision to create a thriving leisure destination, with more entertainment concepts and ideas already in the pipeline for the future for Padel Stars.

"Padel Star has been designed with community and connection at its core. The courts are perfect for friends, families, and colleagues to share the experience together, creating an inclusive and vibrant environment where everyone can get involved.”

"With demand for padel continuing to rise rapidly, early booking will be essential. Players are encouraged to keep an eye out for the official website launch coming very soon, where court bookings, opening offers, and exclusive promotions will be available, in the meantime you can email us with any questions at [email protected].”

Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Paul Bristow said: “Padel Star will be bringing the first padel courts to New Road, creating a new space for sport, leisure and community.

“It’s exciting to see new businesses coming to Peterborough and reusing space that was previously in disrepair. In addition to these new playing facilities, users can also make the most of my free parking campaign, as free car parking spaces will also be available.

"This ties in with my own plans for regeneration but also gives the residents something to be excited about. The rejuvenation of New Road is a priority, and Padel Star is the start of an important period of growth for the city.”
