Oakham Ales’ new Citra T90 was tried and tasted and ready to go on sale on March 22 but the very next day Prime Minister Boris Johnson imposed the Covid-19 lockdown that shut the pubs and kept people indoors.

Adrian Posnett, managing director of Oakham Ales, based in Maxwell Road, Woodston, said: “When we completed production of a new beer on the very day that the UK locked down, I feared that the stock would remain unsold for many months.

“But I need not have worried.

“CitraT90, which is an unfiltered version of our famous Citra Session IPA, is getting rave reviews on social media from the many customers who’ve already purchased cases of the beer.

“So much so that our brewers are needing to brew another batch of the beer this month to keep up with demand.”

Oakham Ales has also restarted the supply of its cask ales to support the growing number of local pubs that are doing draught beer take-outs.

Mr Posnett said: “During these challenging times we are still open and operating.

Pubs and bars are closed which means that our main business has disappeared for the time being.

“But the supermarkets are very busy though and so the bottled beer sales are very good which does help a little.

“Our ales have flown off the shelves of our online shop since being launched on April 17.”
