Three defeats from three but the Lions boss remains upbeat

It’s not been the greatest of starts to life at the new lofty level for the boys from Bretton - they have lost three out of three and prop up the National League Two North table with no points. But that’s all about to change according to Moore. “We are not a pushover. We are a National League Two side,” he announced boldly after watching the latest setback at Hull Ionians on Saturday. “We’ll be winning again soon, don’t you fear. “We are showing 110 per cent guts, we give 110 per cent effort - it’s coming, it’s coming big time. “Let’s get things into perspective. Hull Ionians are a massive side, they’ve just come down from National League One and put 50 points on Tynedale the week before away from home. Yet we’ve given them a good game. “Okay, we started slowly and conceded three tries in the first quarter-of-an-hour but apart from that spell we matched them. Our forwards were tremendous and we had them going in the scrums. “We got it back to 22-12 in the second half and it took them ages to score their fourth try for the bonus point. And their last try was an interception right on the final whistle. “Plus we were also missing four key players - Kaz Henderson, who has broken his leg, Aki Lea, Ben Young and Ashley Hill - four established players who might have made a difference. “So taking everything into account we’re remaining very positive. “We are competing and we are creating chances. It’s just unfortunate that we’ve played three of the best sides in the league in our first three games at this level. “We are recruiting new players all the time, we’re strengthening and once they all get bedded in we’ll be up and running.” Jack Askham and Chris Cutts scored the Lions tries against Hull with Nico Defeo adding a conversion. The newest Lions recruit, who made his debut at Hull, is Fijiian winger Seva Bulumakau from the Doncaster Knights Academy. Next up for the Lions is a home game on Saturday at Solstice Park against Stourbridge. They have beaten Leicester Lions (42-25) and Tynedale (29-24) in home games but lost 24-11 at Sheffield Tigers.
