Phil Gallagher has toured the world and performed before sell-out crowds as well as playing Wembley Arena.

No wonder the likeable children’s television presenter feels like a rock star.

Phil is in fact better known as Mister Maker and is one of the most recognisable faces from kids’ channel CBeebies.

He is the frontman of the worldwide arts and craft phenomenon Mister Maker - it is shown in 100 countries around the globe - which might remind older readers of Art Attack, or even Take Hart.

Now Phil is bringing a version of the show to Peterborough’s Key Theatre (two shows on May 15 which are now sold out) – Mister Maker & The Shapes Live – to the delight of its fans, the Mini-Makers

There will be singing, dancing and arty creations, not to mention fun with The Shapes - Circle, Triangle, Square and Rectangle .

Mister Maker has been delighting CBeebies viewers since 2007 and was already in production when Phil, who studied radio, film and TV production, and had worked in offscreen roles, auditioned.

So did he think he would still be going strong nine years - countless tubes of gloopy glue and a Children’s BAFTA nomination - later?

“It is a cliche but I don’t think I ever dared to dream that far ahead, but I always wanted to be a kids’ TV presenter. I am honoured to be a part of it.” he said.

“At its heart it is an art and crafts show and everyone likes to make things and be creative.

“Art and craft is incredibly engaging all around the world. We teach simple art techniques that a young child is able to learn from.

“We aim to entertain and educate.”

Which is what young and old can expect with the live show at the Key Theatre when the tour, which began last year, before Phil took a “break” for an 84-show panto run - and resumed last month comes to town.

Expect the usual fun arty creation, song, dance and music in a colourful, comedic style and a few things you haven’t seen before.

Phil is no stranger to live performances, though. In 2012 Phil took Mister Maker to South Africa, where he performed hugely successful live shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg, and the same year made a third tour in as many years to Asia – where to date he has performed the live Mister Maker Make It Show in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

In addition, Phil has appeared in two CBeebies Live! UK arena tours, in CBeebies Live: Reach to the Stars (2012) and in CBeebies Live: The Big Band (2014).

“ I have played Wembley Arena, where I felt like a rock star, and before huge audiences all around the world with the live shows,” he said.

“Hearing ‘I Am A Shape’ being sung back to me by a huge audience is one of my proudest moments and a real joy.”
