Wagamama reveals opening date for Peterborough restaurant

As revealed here in November, leading Pan-Asian brand Wagamama is set to move into premises in Long Causeway, close to Cathedral Square, having secured licensing approval and planning permission.

With its nearest restaurant in Cambridge, the company had identified the Cathedral square area of the city centre, saying: “The focus market is expanding into large towns and cities where the brand has little representation and the proposed opening in Peterborough is testament to this target as they have identified this is an area with great potential.”

The former shop units have been vacated, and although a Wagamama spokeswoman was unable to say when conversion work will start, she did reveal the restaurant would open in the autumn.

“Wagamama is delighted to reveal that it will be arriving in Peterborough during autumn 2016,” said the spokeswoman.

“Opening its doors on Long Causeway in the city centre, Wagamama will bring fresh Japanese-inspired cuisine for which it is famous for, to the local area.

“Upon the restaurant opening, visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of new and classic dishes from the iconic menu including Wagamama’s famed ramen; bowls of fragrant soup filled with noodles, plus a range of curries, noodle dishes, sides, all made fresh to order.

“An extensive choice of fresh juices will also be available; all squeezed, pulped and poured using 100% raw ingredients.”

Simon Cope, Global Brand Director added: “We are delighted to be opening the doors to our very first restaurant in Peterborough, this autumn, where wagamama will continue to reinforce positive eating by using fresh ingredients, served in atmospheric surroundings.

The news comes after it was revealed last week that Cote Brasserie will be opening its doors to diners in the city centre next month.

Work is well underway on the refurbishment of the former Santander bank branch in Church Street, overlooking St John’s Church and Cathedral Square, with the French bistro chain welcoming diners on May 23.
