The finishing touches are being made to the Gurkha Lounge in Stewartby Avenue, Hampton Vale, with Ram Krishna Bashyal expecting to be open early next week in the former Kurryz premises which was vacated earlier this year.

A former partner in Spalding’s Gurkha Oven restaurant, Ram says the menu will feature traditional Nepalese and Indian dishes, although around 40 per cent will be fusion dishes he has put together over the years.

“Gurkha Oven opened five years ago and, as a former chef, I introduced a lot of what you might call fusion dishes and my take on Nepalsese food which are now tried and tested.

People were a little surprised to see things like goat curry and spicy lamb kidneys but they became very popular, so they will be on the menu in Hampton.”

The restaurant will be open seven nights a week, plus Thursday to Sunday lunchtimes, with 20 per cent off usual a la carte prices.
