Peterborough Jazz Club will welcome Tina May, who is considered as one of the finest jazz vocalists in the UK, to its Christmas concert at the Great Northern Hotel on December 14.
Tina May is known for her superb tonal range and faultless diction and remains the most expressive and technically gifted jazz singer on the UK scene.
Nicki Iles has been the first call pianist for Tina over many years and they have a rapport that takes a partnership between singer and pianist to a stage far beyond mere voice plus accompaniment, and a distinctive atmosphere surrounds everything they do together.
They will be joined for the Christmas showcase concert by brilliant American saxophonist Jean Toussaint, who became internationally known when he joined Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers in 1982, together with the superb Mark Hodgson on double bass, and top drummer Steve Keogh.
Music starts at 8.00pm. Tickets cost £15, and are available now.
For its New Year concert on January 10, Peterborough Jazz Club, now in its 22nd year, features an international band led by trumpeter Damon Brown and featuring two leading jazz musicians from the USA – top saxophonist Jesse Davis and world-famous drummer Billy Hart (who played with Miles Davis, Stan Getz and many others).
Start time is 8pm and tickets are available at the door, priced £15.
