The Peterborough Music Festival is about to raise the curtain on another exciting year!
On March 17, the 2015 Peterborough Music Festival will open for a week of musical performances by young musicians from the city and beyond.
Performers will compete in nearly 60 classes, including singing, piano, strings, woodwind and brass.
This will be the festival’s 91st year, as the first festival took place in 1925.
Each competitor will receive a certificate and written comments from a specialist adjudicator.
There are cups and trophies for the winners of most classes. The range of trophies reflects the heritage of the festival and its place in the city’s history.
Ken Stimpson School in Werrington, will host the infant, junior and senior school choir classes on the morning of Thursday, March 19. The junior school choir class promises to be particularly exciting, with eight schools competing for the coveted Committee Shield trophy.
All other classes will take place in the Reception Room of the Town Hall.
The Town Hall has a long association with the Music Festival as its warm acoustic is ideal for instruments and singing alike.
The week will finish with a Festival Finale concert on Saturday, March 21 in the Town Hall at 7.00pm.
The best performers of the week will be invited to take part in the concert, which will also include the selection of the Peterborough Young Musician of the Year 2015.
All sessions are open to the public. Admission charge is just £1 on the door.
Tickets for the Festival Finale Concert cost £3 and are available at all festival class sessions, and also on the evening itself.
