The Met Lounge in Peterborough city centre is launching a new night aimed at solo performers looking for somewhere to showcase their talents.
Under the banner of ‘One Mic Stand’ the night will run every Wednesday from November 4 at the Bridge Street venue and not only is the club looking for solo singers, they’ve also opened it up to comedians and poets who may want to express themselves on stage.
Each singer will have the chance to showcase up to 3 songs – their own original material or covers if they prefer - whilst comedians and poets will have up to 15 minutes to perfect their performance.
The night will be hosted by well known local solo artiste Alex Waller who said: ‘‘The great thing about The Met is that the stage is central to the room so every body’s attention will be on the performer. We’re going to seat the entire area in front of the stage, put plenty of candles on the tables, and subtly light the stage to create an intimate and warm atmosphere for the artistes to perform in.
“We’re open to every style of music – would be great to get some country and folk singers along – the sort of acts that probably don’t realise that The Met can cater for them as well as the normal rock and indie bands that are more associated with the venue’’.
The night starts from 7.30pm. Entry is free all night to everybody.
