Peterborough Jazz Club at The Great Northern Hotel, Peterborough welcomes Greg Abate and His Quartet on Sunday.
It is a very welcome return to the club for the great American saxophonist and flautist Greg, who is on a short tour of the UK.
Greg Abate’s career spans over 35 years, starting with Ray Charles and Artie Shaw bands and then following this experience Greg ventured out as post hard bop soloist playing jazz festivals and jazz clubs throughout the USA, Canada and abroad, including most of Europe, Moscow and Georgia.
In 1991, Greg recorded his first CD as leader ‘Live at Birdland’, New York and has gone on to record over 15 CDs under his own name, the last with the great altoist Phil Woods.
In addition to his playing, Greg is a highly respected teacher, being associate Professor of Jazz Studies at Rhode Island College and is also a composer of many great tunes.
Backing Greg Abate is the superb young pianist John Turville, with highly regarded Dave Whitford (double bass) and Nick Smalley on drums.
