DVD of the week: Broadchurch

Have your say

WHEN ITV’s Broadchurch blockbuster returned, some viewers complained they hadn’t got a clue what was going on because it was too complicated. Millions who stuck with it, were gripped by the end however.

Confusion began when the seemingly open-and-shut case of murdered 11-year-old Danny Latimer on a Dorset beach turned out to be far from over. When the accused, Joe Miller, changed his plea to not guilty, the case built by detectives DI Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and Joe’s now-estranged wife DS Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman – pictured) was destroyed in court by the feisty defence barrister (Marianne Jean-Baptiste from US hit Without A Trace) using every dirty trick in the legal book. Meanwhile, writer Chris Chibnall wove in the previous case which had haunted Hardy throughout the first series. It turned out he had failed to find two missing teenage girls in a town called Sandbrook and he was harbouring the wife – a potential witness – of the prime suspect in Broadchurch while he unofficially searched for clues to the cover-up of a double murder. When Miller agrees to help Hardy, they uncover sinister events in Sandbrook. See the series complete on Blu-ray and you won’t be so baffled!
