The region’s biggest dogs show - the three day Just Dogs Live opened to the public today at Peterborough’s East of England Showground.

With a terrific programme of events running from Friday to Sunday, this annual event is a must for all dog lovers.

One of the main attractions this year is a companion dog show, sponsored by the Animal Physiotherapy Dispensary, which will take place on Sunday from 1pm to 2.30pm, emphasising what a great part dogs can play in our lives.

Another eye-opening section of the programme, running on all three days, will be a display by the East Anglian Staffordshire Bull Terrier Display Team.

At the this year’s event, a major emphasis will be on positive training methods. Shelley Heading, a trainer with the Victoria Stillwell Positively Dog Training Network, will be on hand to offer advice and free taster sessions.

Gill Raddings, who trains many of the dogs we see on TV, via her company Student Dogs will also be showing off some of her protégés, including Buddy, who follows Martin Clunes around on the TV show Doc Martin.

Topping the bill on all three days will be a general championship dog show under Kennel Club rules, which will be open to all and could propel winning dogs to Crufts in March 2016. For non-pedigree pooches there’s also a Scruffts cross-breed of the year event, along with a Just Dog Stars talent competition.

Tickets for the three day event can be bought online in advance at http://www.justdogslive.co.uk/ or you can e-mail dogshow@peterborougharena.com or telephone 01733 363500.
