The Army is there to protect the nation whilst meeting every challenge with intelligence and integrity. We inspire ordinary people to exceptional achievements. It is forward-looking and technologically advanced, ready for challenges of the future, both at home or overseas. There is so much more than just the combat element, with 200+ career streams with a fabulous array of opportunities to gain further education from apprenticeships to degrees. It’s a diverse and inclusive organisation that values the ability of its people, always looking to help them achieve their potential. My team is here to inspire young people, helping raise their aspirations and achieve their potential. We work with schools and in communities using sport as one of our mediums, this can range from a football roadshow to an assault course. We combine teamwork with solving a problem to develop young people in a framework of good values and standards. Sponsoring these awards demonstrates the value the Army puts in all sporting and physical activities highlighting the importance of health, fitness and wellbeing, including the time it invests in them. We have chosen the awards to reinforce that all jobs in the Army are open to everyone, and now with the final bastion of the infantry falling all roles in the army are open to women, and rightly so. There are great communities in Peterborough and sporting events bring people together from all backgrounds with a single unifying purpose. My team use sport to inspire young people from these communities to achieve their full potential, whether they decide to serve.
