The World Darts Trophy gets under way at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green on Saturday night when total prize money of £150,000 is on offer.

The Lakeside has staged the BDO world championship since 1986 and for Adams, there’s no venue quite like it.

‘Wolfie’ has won the world title there three times and gehas welcomed the decision to switch the event from Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse.

Adams, who starts his bid for the trophy on Saturday against Latvia’s Madars Ramza, said: “The Lakeside is a much better venue. It’s the home of the game, without a of a doubt, and it’s not freezing!

“It’s been a bit cold at the World Trophy the last couple of years. There wasn’t any heating at the Tower Ballrooms a couple of years ago and as for the event in Manchester last year, it’s not easy trying to heat a room that size!

“There would have been the same problems at the Victoria Warehouse and I’m glad it’s at the Lakeside now.

“It’s a proper set up and for all the players, it’s special.

“I’ve played there in the World Championship for the last 23 years. I still get a buzz when I play there.”

Adams describes his form going into the tournament as ‘average’ and last year, he made a first-round exit from the World Darts Trophy, losing to Jim Widmayer.

Adams will be hoping to show better form this weekend in front of a huge television audience. The three-day event will be screened live on free-to-air television on Dave.

The channel has attracted big viewing figures for boxing recently and with the likes of Adams, Ted Hankey, Scott Waites and Scott Mitchell in action this weekend, the hope is that millions will tune in.

Adams added: “The World Darts Trophy is a big tournament with a quality line up - and the prize money definitely isn’t to be sniffed at!”
