The third running of the superb Whittlesey Triathlon novice event took place at the Manor Leisure Sports Centre.

Certainly both Cameron and Megan Silvester from WiTri, the organisers of the event, were pleased with the large number of local and regional athletes, with the event being open to all ages from eight upwards.

There was a great deal of local interest in the senior races, where they had to tackle a 200 metre swim, a 4,000 metre bike ride and a 2,000 metre run.

For a second successive year Eye Community Runners had a large number taking part, including six of their senior ladies. There were some outstanding individual performances with Denisa Faragova showing her swimming expertise posting the quickest female time of the day. This superb swim was followed up by an equally impressive bike ride finishing third in this discipline, where she just beat her clubmate Marlena Koralewska.

Not to be outdone by her clubmates, and saving her best performance to last, Laura Conway provided the quickest ladies run, which enabled her to win the overall ladies event at her third and final attempt at the event.

After the race Conway said: “I am so proud that I have won what is such a great event. I really had some great support out there, and am so pleased.”

Conway was followed home by another Eye team-mate Nicola Goy, who was first in her age category.

Chris Jones from the Ipswich Triathlon Club won the men’s race with March AC’s Justin Elvidge finishing a strong fourth.

So last year Eye Community Runners provided the men’s overall winner in the guise of Lee Whitton, and this year it was the ladies with Laura Conway, who is in fact Lee’s fiancée.
