Ton-up Singletonsteals victory atFerry Meadows

Carl Singleton won the Steel City Open at Ferry Meadows.

Pleasure anglers do it from time to time, but three-figure weights in open matches is at another level.

It’s a wonderful water to fish and on a good day you will get plenty of bites, but the really big weights are not so easily come by.

So congratulations go to Carl Singleton for putting a fine 109lb to the scales on Sunday in the Steel City Open match.

Stu Redman put over 400 fish in his net at Lovell's Lakes.

Drawn on peg 105, he caught right from the whistle catching bream and skimmers on long-range feeder tactics to see off the challenge of a very strong field.

Runner-up was Ian Drage on peg 113. He finished with 56lb, followed by Matt Winston with 54lb.

LOVELL’S LAKES

One water that doesn’t get as much attention as many of our stillwater venues around the area is Lovell’s Lakes at Tallington.

It’s well known for producing good quality carp fishing on the old, original lake but the new lake is a water well worth a visit if you are after plenty of bites. It’s also very good indeed if you are keen to get someone new into fishing as it’s literally teeming with roach and rudd as city rod Stu Redman proved a couple of weeks ago. He put over 400 fish in his net in a short morning session fishing a short pole with maggot over groundbait.

Go and give it a try I do not think you will be disappointed.

OVER 55s

Oak Pool on the Decoy complex saw some good returns in the Over 55s match.

Top rod with 128lb 1oz from peg 22 was Mick King, who caught well all day fishing close in with worm and red maggot.

Runner-up was Ray Torrington. He put 106lb 3oz to the scales all caught on cat meat.

Third place went to Gordon Parker with 95lb 5oz, fishing close with red maggot.

DECOY OPEN

There was a big turnout for the Sunday Open on the Willow Pool at Decoy Lakes.

Top rod with a very impressive 132lb from unfancied peg seven was Simon Dow, who caught fishing shallow for most of the day on red maggot.

Barry Mason also did well from an average peg, weighing 120lb from peg three.

Rounding off the frame from peg 35 was Tony McGregor on 115lb.

JVAC

Those leading the way in the latest JVAC match on the Beastie Pool found plenty of fish willing to feed, but it was tough going for some.

Returning to form was Jay Richardson on peg 17. He caught close in all day to finish with 143lb 7oz.

Similar tactics put Steve Dorks into second place from peg 28 with 114lb 10oz, then it was Trevor Dew on 25 with 109lb 5oz.

CONSERVATIVE CLUB

John Newman once again finished out in front in the latest Conservative Angling Club match on the Horseshoe Pool at Decoy.

He caught 122lb 2oz on peg 16 on pellet and red maggot close in.

He was followed by Bob Walker with 105lb and Andy Fielding with 91lb 8oz.
