Holly Leggott, Bethany Eagle-Brown, Louis Metselaar and Tom Adams competed against 16 other teams at the championships, with Metselaar elected the boys’ team captain. Each had an individual race, over 100m, as well as being chosen for the relays.

In the boys 100m breaststroke, Metselaar broke the Deepings Swimming Club record, which had stood for 17 years, touching home in 12th place in 1.08.98. The time qualifies Metselaar for the Midlands winter short course championships in November.

Also dipping under the qualifying mark for the winter championships was Eagle-Brown, who posted her fasted time of the year in the 100m butterfly, narrowly outside her lifetime best.

Leggott, who has been on reduced training due to a shoulder injury she picked up recently, swam particularly well in her 100m freestyle. She flew off the blocks to set a new personal best time and became the third Deepings swimmer to be eligible for the winter short course championships in November.

Meanwhile, Adams competed in the 100m freestyle and posted his fastest time of the new season of 56.76, just off his personal best.

Lynn Chapman, Deepings Swimming Club head coach, said: “It’s always an honour to be selected for your county and for us to have four swimmers picked shows how strongly we’ve started the season. Holly, Bethany, Louis and Tom all produced excellent swims and did themselves, the club and the county proud.”
