Bob Mills.

There are always a few fish to be had though and matchwinner Bob Mills found more than enough to take a comfortable victory.

OVER 55s

It was also a struggle on the latest Decoy Over 55s match, held on a frosty morning on Horseshoe Lake with a cold northerly wind blowing.

However, some fish were shoaled up in front of some and Vince Hull had an easy win after locating carp and F1s which he caught close in on pole-fished maggot from unfancied peg 14 to put 47lb 15oz on the scales.

Secpond on peg 16 was Jay Richardson with 30lb 5oz and third Pete Carter with 29lb.

Sweetcorn is a fine winter bait that many anglers on commercial waters turn to when the going gets tough.

Barry Nicholls was pleased he had a tin or two in his bag while fishing the JVAC match on the Elm Pool. He put a match-winning 45lb 2oz to the scales from peg 17. Runner-up with 42lb 2oz was Ron Cuthbert, then came Dan Abbott with 37lb 15oz.

Sunday’s Decoy Lakes Open on the Horseshoe Lake saw even the best anglers to the fishery find bites hard to come by.

Top rod with 47lb from peg 19 was yet another angler having success with sweetcorn, Jimmy Brooks.

Wayne Shepherd came second from peg 15 with 44lb 13oz followed by Simon Godfrey on 42lb 11oz.

Tony Moulds won on Sunday with a very good 44lb 2oz on a small feeder approach. Next came Paul DeCello (16lb 15oz) and Cliff Fuller (11lb 5oz).
