Morris making the most of his Premier chance

The British talent appeared in 12 meetings for the Monarchs after being drafted into their team towards the end of that championship season as a 16 year-old.

Now 22, Morris is on course to enjoy more outings than that with Panthers in the current campaign after having his initial short-term spell with the club extended in recent days.

The early July arrival has been an impressive performer at reserve with only one poor showing in eight outings for the club to date.

“I had started to give up hope of getting back into the Premier League this year,” said Midlands-based Morris.

“I’m very grateful to Peterborough for giving me the chance to race at this level again, and I’ve tried to make the most of it.

“It was bad fortune for Simon Lambert to crash and pick up such a serious injury, but it has worked out for me in this case.

“I’m enjoying my racing and doing all I can to score points as we try to get into the play-offs.

“I won the league at Edinburgh and it was a good feeling even though I hadn’t been in the team for long.

“It would be even more satisfying to win it again with Peterborough because we have a great bunch of lads here.”

Morris was thrilled to bounce back from a one-point nightmare in a recent home defeat against Edinburgh with a terrific paid 12-point haul to help Panthers to a 50-40 success at Berwick last Saturday night.

And he hopes that victory can provide the catalyst for a successful climax to the regular season with Panthers having six meetings remaining in which to nail down a top-six finish.

“That was one of my best scores in the Premier League, and certainly the best I’ve ever had up at Berwick,” added Morris.

“It was a case of making some good gates and riding sensibly to rack up the points.

“We’ve had some good results on the road and they have come in very useful as to be honest we’ve struggled a bit at home.

“I’ve found it tough to find the right set-up at the Showground because the track has been changing a lot during meetings and from meeting to meeting.

“Hopefully all the boys can start clicking at home as we’re getting to the serious part of the season now.

“I’d like to think we can finish in the top six and reach the play-offs from this position.”
