Ostergaard came down with rival Bjarne Pedersen in his second ride at the national championship event on Friday night (June 3).

The 35 year-old managed only two points – both of which arrived courtesy of a second place in his opening ride.

Panthers promoter Ged Rathbone, who was present at the meeting in Holsted, said: “It was a heavy fall but thankfully it looks like Ulrich is only battered and bruised.

“He didn’t have a lot of luck as he was leading the first race on three occasions only for it to be stopped on each of them.”

Former Panthers star, and current Yaxley resident, Niels Kristian Iversen won a fifth successive Danish title.

Another ex-Peterborough man, Kenneth Bjerre, also climbed onto the rostrum after finishing third.

There was a happier experience for another of Panthers’ Danes yesterday as Emil Grondal helped his country to glory in a World Under 21 Team Cup semi-final.

Also at Holsted, Grondal contributed nine of Denmark’s 41 points as they pipped Australia (40) by the narrowest of margins.

Great Britain were third on 32 points with Robert Lambert, who was sacked by Panthers last season, responsible for 18 of that tally. Norway brought up the rear on 10 points.

Grondal and co now face Poland, Australia and hosts Sweden in the final on August 20.
