Danish ace Michael Palm Toft suffered a broken hand when involved in a crash during the SGB Premiership Grand Final last night (October 8).

Palm Toft was hurt riding for King’s Lynn against Poole and went to hospital in Sheffield, where he is based, earlier today where an X-ray revealed the damage.

“I’ve never known an injury situation like it,” said Panthers team boss Carl Johnson.

“And once again it is a case of one of our riders being hurt while racing for another team.

“The same thing has happened with Scott (Nicholls), Tom (Bacon), Emil (Grondal) and Nike (Lunna) when he was with us.

“We’ve had unbelievably bad luck and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it other than try to put together the best teams possible for this weekend.”

Panthers attempt to salvage their season when hosting Scunthorpe in a KO Cup semi-final, second leg on Saturday (October 13, 7pm). They have a near-impossible task of overturning a 28-point aggregate deficit.

Panthers then head to Rye House to take on Lakeside on Sunday (October 14, 2pm) in the play-off semi-final, second leg with a two-point deficit after being pipped 46-44 at Alwalton last Sunday (October 7).

Panthers have drafted in Edinburgh man Ricky Wells and Redcar racer Thomas Jorgensen as guests for Nicholls and Palm Toft respectively on Saturday.

They will then use Scunthorpe star Jason Garrity and their frequent guest Tero Aarnio when going to Rye House on Sunday.

Veteran reserve Carl Wilkinson covers for Bacon at the bottom of the order in both meetings while rider replacement will again be in operation for Bradley Wilson-Dean.
