Sophie top of the Hicks School class in Bristol

Fighters from the city's Hicks Karate School got among the medals at the weekend when taking part in the Bristol Open - a huge international two-day event which attracts competitors from all over the world.

They won two golds, three silvers and three bronze medals with Saturday fighter of the day Sophie Doyle making the podium in all four of her events. She won one gold, two silvers and a bronze.

Young Joshua Leonard, aged six, won his first big international standard competition event to claim the club’s other gold and he was Sunday’s fighter of the day.

Sophie Doyle: Gold Girls U25kg Continuous; Silver Girls U28kg Continuous; Silver Girls U25kg Points; Bronze Girls U28kg Points.

Aaron Dickerson: Silver Men’s Novice O79kg; Bronze Men’s U89kg Continuous.

Warren Bothamley: Bronze Boys O47kg Continuous.
