SNOOKER: Perry's season starts with a defeat
The new snooker season didn't start too well for Chatteris cueman Joe Perry yesterday (June 22).
The world number nine was in Latvia playing in the Kaspersky Riga Masters and suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of John J. Astley from Gateshead in the first round.
Astley, who only turned pro three years ago, dominated from the word go and stormed into a 3-0 lead aided by breaks of 61 and 110.
A break of 73 helped Perry pull a frame back, but another 60-plus break by Astley saw him through.
