The 23 year-old from King’s Lynn will take over from injured skipper Greig Laidlaw at scrum-half for the game against Wales at Murrayfield.

Price came off the bench at the Stade de France a fortnight ago to replace Laidlaw during a 22-16 defeat and that was only his second Test appearance.

His first was as a replacement against Georgia in Kilmarnock last autumn.

Head coach Vern Cotter gave Price the nod ahead of his Glasgow Warriors clubmate Henry Pyrgos, who will be on the bench.

Scarlets flanker John Barclay will take over Laidlaw’s captain’s role.
