Big-hitting Bourne are threatening to run away with Rutland Division One.

The table-toppers are 42 points clear at the top after scorching to an 83-run win at Peterborough Town yesterday (July 3).

Bourne have won eight of their nine completed fixtures (they tied the other one) and the latest victory was never in doubt once free-scoring captain Peter Morgan got into his stride.

Morgan cracked his third ton of the campaign at Bretton Gate (he turned one into a double ton) to make it 560 runs at an average of 112 in Rutland cricket this summer.

Morgan smashed seven sixes and 10 fours in an innings of 118 as he dominated a third-wicket century stand with Sam Evison who made 82.

Bourne closed on 309-6 in their 45 overs and Town were never in the hunt, settling for respectability on 226-8 with David Clarke contributing 63.

Bourne return to Bretton Gate for the Jaidka Cup Final on Monday, July 11.

Nassington, Oundle and Wisbech are Bourne’s closest Rutland League challengers and all won yesterday.

Nassington won a high-scoring thriller at Market Deeping as they chased down the home side’s 239-6 with one ball to spare.

Gary Scotcher finished unbeaten on 84 for Nassington with Tom Norman (54), Conor Craig (48) and Asif Ali (44) also in form.

David Gillett (62no) and Zac Simmonds (58no) added an unbroken 96 for Deeping’s seventh wicket. Simmonds cracked five sixes in a 39-ball knock.

Tshepo Moreki was unbeaten on 92 when Oundle completed a four-wicket win at bottom club Uppingham, while Gary Freear (78) and Jack Hargreaves (68no) did the damage as Wisbech won by four wickets at home to Stamford.

Ufford Park boosted their chances of avoiding relegation by beating neighbouring village Barnack by 124 runs.

Waqas Javed (71no) bashed his second half century of the weekend in Ufford’s 237-5. Joe Corder (62) and Ross Keymer (53) also performed well for the winners as did Joe Harrington (3-14) and Paul Bentley (3-25)
