The city side have won their last three United Counties Premier Division matches to shoot up to the giddy heights of seventh, a great effort for a club with one of the smaller budgets at this level.

Star will hope to make it four in a row at home to lowly ON Chenecks tomorrow (October 6, 3pm), but he’s taking nothing for granted.

“A club like ours is always a couple of injuries away from a problem,” Wilson stated. “We don’t have the squad depth enjoyed by other clubs at this level, but what I do have is a gifted young side who work really hard.

“There is obviously a long way to go and a top 10 finish is still our target, but what we have already achieved is impressive considering we had to start rebuilding the squad after the season had started when a couple of key players left us.

“The league looks tougher this year as some of last season’s weaker teams have improved.”

Star completed their hat-trick of top flight wins with a 2-0 win at Kirby Muxloe last weekend thanks to goals from Christian Le and Mark Cox.

Second-placed Pinchbeck won 1-0 at ON Chenecks last weekend courtesy of a Lee Beeson goal to complete a year without a league defeat. They host Wellingborough Whitworth on Saturda when Deeping entertain Oadby and Holbeach United are at Desborough.

Yaxley conceded 16 goals in two home games in four days, losing 7-4 at home to Aylesbury in the Division One Central of the Evo Stik Southern League before losing 9-0 to higher level Biggleswade Town in the League Cup.

The Cuckoos are at Cambridge City for a league match tomorrow.

March Town chase a fourth straight win in all competitions when travelling to AFC Sudbury Reserves in Division One North of the Eastern Counties League.
