Hat-trick for Peterborough Northern Star, Tigers on the rampage, Deeping lose unbeaten record, Sparrow in form again for Cuckoos, Spalding hold leaders, Wisbech and Stamford fail to hold onto leads

Peterborough Northern Star made it three United Counties Premier Division wins on the spin when taking a big scalp at the Branch Bros Stadium yesterday (September 22).

A diving header just past the hour mark from Corey Kingston settled the outcome against previously unbeaten Oadby Town. Star have now climbed into the top half after losing their first two matches of the season.

Holbeach United jumped up to fifth after delivering a superb away performance at Rothwell Corinthians. Jack Smith’s hat-trick and a brace from Josh Ford, the second from the penalty spot after a home player had thrown the ball at Billy Smith’s head, secured a 5-0 win for the Tigers.

It wasn’t such good news for Deeping Rangers who lost for the first time in the Premier Division despite playing against 10 men for the entire second half against Eynesbury following a viokent conduct dismissal for Hayden Bream.

The visitors were 2-0 up at the time and added a third after the break.

Pinchbeck United are second after a 3-3 thriller at home to Desborough. Pinchbeck led 2-1 and 3-2 before being pegged back. Ollie Maltby, Liam Bayliss and Andrew Tidswell scored the goals for the Knights.

Blackstones are up to second in Division One after a second-half strike from Martyn Fox secured a 1-0 win at St Andrews, but Bourne have slumped to 17th after an embarrassing 10-2 thrashing at third-placed Lutterworth Town. Tendai Daire scored six goals for the home side.

At Evo Stik League level there was a second successive win in Southern League Division One Central for Yaxley who triumphed 4-3 at AFC Dunstable. A three-goal burst in five second-half minutes proved decisive as a 2-1 deficit turned into a 4-2 lead. Matt Sparrow scored twice for the third Cuckoos match in a row, while Dan Cotton and Kyle Nolan also netted.

Spalding United have now drawn six of their seven matches in Division One East of the Northern League after holding Ossett Town, who started the day top, to a 1-1 draw away from home. Leon Mettam equalised early in the second-half for the Tulips from the penalty sport to secure a point in Matt Easton’s first game as full-time manager.

Wisbech Town also drew, 1-1 at home to Brighouse Town, after taking a lead into the interval courtesy of Alex Beck. Stamford AFC also lead at half-time thanks to a Glen Butterworth goal, but they went down 2-1 at Marske to goals in the 74th and 79th minutes.

Stamford are eighth in the table, Wisbech are 16th with winless Spalding in 17th place. Stamford host Spalding at the Zeeco Stadium on Tuesday (September 25).

March Town won for the second time in Division One North of the Turlow Nunn Eastern Counties League as goals from Craig Gillies. Casey Logan and Rob Conyard saw off bottom club Felixstowe and Walton United Reserves.

Wisbech St Mary were beaten 2-1 at home by leaders Harleston Town.
