Peterborough Rugby Club fielded an Under 11 girls team for the first time at the weekend (October 25), winning away against Oundle’s Owlettes.

They’re now looking to recruit more Year 5 and Year 6 girls and are holding a recruitment session at their Fengate ground on the morning of Sunday November 22 (10am).

“England are the current women’s world champions,” said coach Simon Potter, “and an increasing amount of clubs are starting up teams for girls. Women’s rugby has come a long way since it started in the 1880s, when several games had to be abandoned because of rioting by people who objected to the idea of women playing sport!”
