Seven days after stunning Midlands Division One leaders Paviors 33-32, the city side entertained another Nottinghamshire outfit, West Bridgford, and lost 26-17.

Last week against Paviors, Borough came on strong in the final quarter after a slow start. Today was the opposite. They were good in the first half but then faded.

“We led 17-7 at half-time and it all was looking good. But then we threw it away,” said vice-chairman Archie Bennett.

“We had enough chances to win but sadly didn’t take them. It was disappointing after the Paviors result.”

Borough scored two tries in the first half, the first a solo effort from fly-half Matt Newman and the second a touchdown under the posts by Zac McClure. Newman converted both and added a penalty.

McClure again had a fine game for Borough along with second row Adam Whyles and hooker Jamie Dingle.

There was better news over at Oundle as they came from 7-0 down to beat Towcestrians 40-23 with Robb Shingles scoring four tries.

Oundle are third in the table and Borough ninth.
