ROWING: City ladies master the Thames

Peterborough City Rowing Club entered two eights for the first time in the prestigious Vesta Veterans Head race on the Thames on Sunday and both made the top 10 in their categories.

Hayley Marsters, Ilektra Apostolidou, Sarah Smith, Gail Parker, Tina Allen, Caroline Calver, Helen Wallace, Anita Carter and cox Hannah Parker came fifth out of 17 entries in the Women’s Masters C category while the Women’s Masters A crew of Hayley Shipton, Carole Hook, Gemma Singleton, Emma Richardson, Louise Dybell, Kate Read, Ericha Knowles-Pardoe, Sarah Sheldrick and cox Serena Ward were eighth in their field.

Peterborough junior rowers Harry Masterson, Jack Collins, Benjamin Mackenzie and Archie Sootheran were also in action in London at the weekend. They raced in the J16 coxless quad category at the Oarsport Junior Sculling Head over the Dorney Lake course of 3,600m and their time of 12:59 saw them finish 14th out of an impressive field of 30 crews.
