POOL: Gray pots a domestic double in Telford

Top local pool player Mark '˜Granite' Gray has just arrived in Austria for the second Euro Tour event of the year in buoyant mood after completing a domestic double.

Gray, who is currently ranked number two in Europe, won both the main event (96 competitors) and the 16-man pro event at the GB 9-Ball Tour competition at the Raddison Park Hotel in Telford.

In the main event he picked up some top scalps on his way to the final including that of current 8-Ball world champion Gareth Hibbott, who he beat 9-1, and Scotland’s number one Jayson Shaw. who he defeated 9-3 in the semi-finals.

In the final he came back from 2-0 down to beat Stewart Colclough from Manchester 11-7 to pocket a winner’s cheque for £1,100 plus trophy.

In the closing stages of the pro event he beat London’s Imran Majid 10-6 in the quarter-finals and current UK number one Craig Osbourne 10-3 in the semis.

Gray, the 42 year-old resident professional at Bourne Snooker Centre, then saw off Barnsley’s Elliott Sanderson 11-2, which included seven break and runs, to collect another cheque for £1,000.
