Runner-up again was Ben Townsend from hot peg 31. He had a slow start before catching late down the edge on maggots over groundbait.

In third place was Martyn Freeman with 46lb.

Another angler in top form is Tony Dawson. He took first place in the fishery’s Over 60s match on Wednesday from peg 13 netting 35lb 12oz.

Chris Saunders was runner up on 31lb, then came Steve Tyler with 25lb 10oz.

There are no open matches at the fishery this weekend as it’s the big two-day final being fished on the Magpie Pool with the draw at 9am.

Several of the city’s top matchmen have managed to qualify for the final so let’s hope one of them scoops the top spot.
