Peterborough riders just keep on winning

There has been more recent success for Peterborough Cycling Club riders in open competitions.

Club newcomer Malcolm Smith, a veteran, won the Bourne Wheelers 10-mile time trial while James Gelsthorpe scored his third win of the season when triumphing in the Northants & District CA 19-mile time trial.

Smith won from a 49-rider field in 21:31 with clubmate Steve Wood finishing 11th in 23:52 in one of his last events for the club before moving to France.

Gelsthorpe won the Northants race in a very fast 42:47 with the club’s Belgian import Christophe Demoulin finishing second in 43:39.

In the ECCA 10, Matthew Senter, another new signing for the club, finished in an excellent fifth place in a time of 20:51 and Paul Pardoe clocked 21:23.

In the Thursday Summer League, Mark Bleakley romped away to win in a personal best time 22:41. He won by more than two minutes from Nick Hitchens.

Not to be outdone the club’s road racers have also been in good form.

Jason Burrill was fifth in the Hatfield 110km race; Alan Brophy finished seventh at the Rockingham Speedway and Marina Doroshenko scored her third top 10 place in the three races she has contested so far at Rockingham.
