Patience pays off as bailiff Mark lands a couple of wonderful chub
To say fishing on the Nene this season has been hard is perhaps overstating things, but good nets of roach, skimmers and bream during low and clear conditions have made it tough at times.
For those after chub and barbel even in the hot-spots at Alwalton and Castor it really has been difficult, with most fish only coming out during evening sessions.
A lot of the catch reports I get come from Peterborough & DAA bailiff for that area Mark Smith and after putting the time in he has been rewarded with some huge chub.
He said: “I had two areas in mind on a recent trip a couple of miles apart. I opted for one that had produced some good chub in the past but had so far this season failed to deliver a single bite.
“That was until I landed a season’s best 5lb 10oz which I was more than happy with. I decided to stick it out in the same swim which proved to be the right decision as 15 minutes later I landed a new personal best of 6lb 5oz taken on cheese paste.”
A wonderful fish that proves time and effort does pay off even when the river is not in top form.
