Joe is now ranked number two for his age group in the country and won a silver medal in a schools international in Swansea.

And that was enough to see off some pretty strong competition for the Junior Sportsperson of the Year award.

Athletes held a strong hand in this category with English Schools Under 15 shot putt champion (and UK number one) Donovan Capes and Evie Hemmings, the 13 year-old winner of two Lincs County Championship golds, also collecting many votes.

Others nominated were Orton Park CC’s prolific 14 year-old batsman Sam Jarvis and multiple international rowing medal winners Bert Papworth and Tom Calver.

It was the first time the PT had combined the Junior Sportsman and Junior Sportswoman categories making this a tough prize to win.
