Peterborough Nene Valley athletes of all ages deliver awesome performances

An astonishing 38 personal bests (PBs) were achieved at a wet and windy Embankment Track (October 5), as Peterborough Nene Valley AC held their second high-class club members meeting of the shortened season.

Fourteen of the PBs were recorded from the 23 athletes competing in the three 800m races.

Ironically the fastest runner of the day Benji Davis with 1.59.1 crossed the line outside his fastest time, but Sam Staines in second with 1.59.9 and third placed Harry Hewitt in 2:02.0 both advanced their best times.

Under 20 Brandon Ballard, who was seventh in the 2019 national T20 disability 5,000m rankings, ran 2:17.5 to claim a new PB.

Under 15 Johan Coughlan won his race in 2:23.2 with Aoife Glaswell first girl in 2:26.1.

Elliot Long won the third race in 2:27.0 with under 13 Sam Staines runner up in an impressive 2:44.1. Niamh Glaswell, younger sister of Aoife, was the quickest girl with a 2:48.0 clocking.

The 200m races provided some fast times. Claire Smith ran a PB of 27.4 while Katie Marsh was the second quickest lady in 28.5.

James Marsh with 23.4 and Sean Reidy in 24.7 were the speediest men.

Sam Eve clocked 18.0 and was the fastest lady in the 100m hurdles.

Under 17’s Max Roe and Elena Rivetti won the 80m hurdles with new best times of 11.7 and 13.8 respectively, while Sienna Slater ran 11.7 in the under 15s 70m hurdles.

Slater’s jump of 3.96m and Noah Fell’s 3.61 won the under 15s long jump and Max Roe with 5. 76m and Elena Rivette with 4.48m won the under 17’s event.

Senior lady Kristina Jasauskaite achieved a distance of 10.83m in the triple jump.

The two 3,000m races were exciting affairs. Phil Martin ran a PB of 8.58.5 after breaking clear of Stuart Haw, who clocked 9:11.8, and Samuel Hughes, who finished in 9:15.1, mid-race.

Maggie Skinner was the fastest lady in 11:04.6 with Emma Randall in hot pursuit with a time of 11:13.6.

Shot putting brothers Donovan and Lawson Capes were in good form despite the unfriendly weather.

Ranked at number one in the country at under 15 and under 13 levels last year, the talented twosome threw 14.59m and 10.96m respectively.

Under 20 Elizabeth Moorhouse threw 11.18m, and also won the discus with a 23.15m distance.

Sienna Slater capped a fine day with a discus throw of 6.21m. Simon Achurch won the mens competition thowing 34.16m.

*Evergreen Eric Winstone finished third in the virtual over 65 European Masters 3,000m in a time of 13:05.00.
