BOWLS: Jim Weston of Brotherhoods won his Hunts County singles semi-final 21-14 against Yaxley’s Pat Padley.

POSH: Manager Noel Cantwell turned down a bid of £3,000 from Workington for defender Keith Oakes.

CRICKET: Left-arm swing bowler John Ellington bagged 8-30 as Bourne bowled Spalding out for 72 on the way to a seven-wicket win in the South Lincs League.

OLYMPICS: Peterborough swimmer Brian Brinkley recorded the two fastest 200m butterfly time of his life at the Montreal Games, but had to settle for sixth place in the final.

SPEEDWAY: Peterborough Panthers’ display in a Fours semi-final in King’s Lynn was described as ‘inept’ by ET reporter Kevin Brown. Panthers finished last of five teams with just five points. Roy Carter contributed four of the points.

ATHLETICS: Royston Fox of PAC won the 1500m, 800m and shot put events in an Eastern Counties meeting at the Embankment.

CRICKET: Buckworth retained the Jubilee Shield with a 13-run succes over Castor which was bad luck on Terry Moon who claimed 4-25 for the runners-up.

CRICKET: Ivan Wallis smacked a Rutland League record individual score of 157 as Oundle beat Stamford by 99 runs in Division One.

GOLF: Judy Ray of Oundle equalled the ladies course record at Thorpe Wood with a round of 83.

CRICKET: Peterborough League sides were warned about their behaviour following a series of unsavoury incidents. Leighton Bromswold conceded a game against Pak Azad after walking off the pitch in protest at a number of alleged no-balls not being called.

SPEEDWAY: Panthers pair Carl Baldwin and Adrian Hume were rushed to hospital after a dreadful first bend crash during a 41-37 National League defeat to Boston at the Showground.

CRICKET: Ajaz Akhtar, who had been axed from the first-team, took 6-18 as Peterborough Town seconds dismissed Old Wellingburians on the way to a nine-wicket win in a Northants Division Three match.

FOOTBALL: The Blue Stars team of Mick Reidy, Noel Reidy, Nick Papworth, John Brennan, Mick Vertigan and Dave Pugh beat Peacock Foods 2-0 in the final of the Werrington Fives competition.

HOCKEY: The Bretton Beavers mixed side won the ET Indoor Cup for the sixth successive season at the Cresset. They hadn’t dropped a single point in any of those six years! Beavers won their final game 1-0 against Young Conservatives thanks to a goal from captain Mike Yeoman.

CRICKET: Prolific Market Deeping opener Chris Jones took his tally of runs for the season to 1800 by scoring 114 as the Rutland League XI beat Western Australia Under 21s by two wickets.

KARATE: Clifton Findley won his third British title in Birmingham while his five year-old son Kyle was winning his first event at the Wellingborough Open.

POSH: The club were forced to smash their transfer record as a tribunal ordered them to pay £350k to Walsall for midfielder Martin O’Connor.

GOLF: Graeme Macdonald beat Jason Latter in a play-off to win the Thorpe Wood Club Championships.

CRICKET: Paul Ramm of Burghley Park and Barnack was the most popular choice in an ET poll to find the bestcricketers in the area. The rest of the team was: Colin Dale, Saleem Mohammed, Nadeem Mohammed, David Gillett, Tony Howorth, Ajaz Akhtar, Paul Rawden, Jim Weston, Ged McDougall, Dominic Ralfs.

SPEEDWAY: Sam Tesar (16). Jason Crump (15) and Ryan Sullivan (13) scored well as Panthers beat Scottish Monarchs 51-40 in a home National League meeting.

BOWLS: Teenager Matthew Noller from Sawtry beat Yaxley’s Andrew Thurston in the Hunts Under 25 singles final.

POSH: Keith Alexander’s side lost 5-3 in a friendly at Kettering after conceding four goals in the final seven minutes. Simon Yeo, Danny Crow and James Quinn scored for Posh.

CRICKET: Chandan Madan cracked an unbeaten ton as Elton Park stayed top of Rutland Division One with a 51-run win over Ketton. Tas Ahmed (62) also batted well for Elton.

TENNIS: Luke Chapman (AMVC, Glinton) beat 11 year-old Moniq ue Williams (Jack Hunt) 7-5 in the final of the Hereward Sports Under 16 tournament at Central Park.

GOLF: Richard Coles of Milton won the Midlands Senior title in Solihull with a round of 71.

ATHLETICS: Stacy McGivern won six events for PAC in a Womens League event in Twickenham. Leah Parsons won four events.

HOCKEY: Peterborough Town’s Alex Boxall scored four goals as England won a bronze medal in the European Nations Cup in Dublin.

ROWING: Peterborough City stars Natalie Bream, Dan Bream, James Fox and Philippa Neill all won medals at the National Championships in Strathclyde. Natalie’s efforts earned her a Great Britain call-up.
