Gareth’s son Joey Evision is pictured third from the left on the back row of the main photograph. Joey went on to play for England U19s at cricket and is now a first class player with Notts. Second left on the front row is current Posh first-teamer Harrison Burrows. Far right on the front is another Posh player Archie Jones. Also pictured are Josh Allen, Owen Gilbert, Connor Peters, Corey Gray and William Barnes. We don’t know the lad on the left on the front row or the goalkeeper on the right of the back row!

ICE HOCKEY: Defencemen James Morgan, Craig Britton and Jason Porter starred as Peterborough Pirates beat Milton Keynes 3-1 in the British National League.

SQUASH: World number six Tania Bailey from Stamford lost to top seeded Australian Sarah Fitzgerald in the final of the New York Open.

POSH: Barry Fry’s team threw away a 2-0 half-time lead to draw 2-2 at Swansea in a Second Division game. Leon McKenzie and Andy Clarke scored for Posh. “We now have an injury crisis,” Fry moaned. “As I cuffed a few around the head in the dressing room.”

RUGBY UNION: Chris Templeman scored Borough’s try in a 13-10 Midlands Division Three defeat at Leicester Vipers.

FOOTBALL: A team of Posh fans moved to within two wins of a national supporters cup final at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium with a 13-3 win over Leyton Orient. The team was: Stuart Paling, Steve Paling, Andy Bradley, Lee Darcy, Richard Marriott, Graham Marriott.

FOOTBALL: Local bookie Oundle Racing decided to pay out on Eye United winning the Peterborough Premier Division title after they won their first 13 matches.

FOOTBALL: Former Posh striker Paul Culpin signed for Stamford AFC.

ICE HOCKEY: Peterborough Islanders player Tim Heriot claimed to have broken a world record by scoring a short-handed hat-trick in just 88 seconds at Basingstoke.

POSH: Majority shareholder Alf Hand threw his weight behind city businessman Peter Boizot’s bid to buy the club. Posh were £2.5 million in debt.

RUGBY UNION: Borough pipped local rivals Thorney 22-15 in the final of the Hunts & Peterborough Cup. Brothers Pete and Dave Brudnell, Lee Gallagher and Steve Brittain scored Borough’s tries. Andy McGeown and Alistair Bennett crossed for Thorney.

POSH: There were criticisms of the London Road pitch after a goalless Division Two draw with Neil Warnock’s Plymouth. Warnock disappointed the 6,288 crowd by leaving out star goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar. “I took one look at the pitch,” Warnock said. “And decided I didn’t want a goalkeeper who likes to dribble in his own area.”

HOCKEY: Peter Hings scored as Peterborough Town lost 2-1 to Chelmsford in the East Premier League.

SQUASH: City & Counties beat Deepings 3-2 in Division One of the Peterborough League. Scores: (Deeping first): Gerry Copestake beat Phil Godfrey, Colin Fisher beat Jim Daintith, Mark McKenzie lost to Paul Saunders, Chris Ryan lost to Steve Wilson, Steve Lakeman lost to Gerry Armstrong.

ARCHERY: City club Nene Bowmen picked up a string of medals at the Cambs Inbdoor Championships with Angela Goulty, Margaret Barham and 11 year-old Katy Barham claiming golds.

POSH: Noel Cantwell’s side suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat to lowly Orient in a Division Four match at snowbound London Road. Centre-back Wakeley Gage came closest to scoring for Posh.

ICE HOCKEY: Peterborough Pirates thumped Trafford Metros 11-4 in a British League match. Garry Unger (4), Todd Bidner (3), Doug McEwen (2), Tim Peacock and Kenny McKie scored the Pirates goals.

SPEEDWAY: Young star Carl Baldwin quit the Peterborough Panthers as he couldn’t handle the big Alwalton track.

CRICKET: Nenedale maintained their unbeaten record in the Hunts County Indoor League with a 39-run win over Perkins. Nadeem Mohammed top scored with 39 for Nenedale while Andy Walker finished 27 not out.

FOOTBALL: Walton schoolboy Glen Beech joined First Division Aston Villa as an apprentice professional.

RUGBY UNION: Alan Keeley, Bob Short and Titch Ireson scored the tries as Borough beat Spalding 16-10 in a friendly.
