Northants withdrew last year owing to team-raising issues, but with teams now reduced to five rinks instead of six, coupled with some new additions to the squad, they are now able to fulfil their commitments.

With North Cambs only able to field a Donald Steward Trophy team, it means that Northants’ Silver Jubilee Vase team will have to wait for their first action since 2014.

The local bowls community have been mourning the sudden death of well-known bowler Bob Crow, who, along with wife Helen, was a member of the Langtoft Pearl club.

A minute’s silence was observed before the annual friendly match between Whittlesey Manor and the Northants Bowling Federation on Saturday, and the county flag was flown at half-mast as a mark of respect.

PETERBOROUGH LEAGUE

Peterborough & District withdrew their B team from the Peterborough League before the season got under way owing to a shortage of players. The team were due to play in Midweek League Division Two.
