After three wins in his opening four races, Barnes moved onto the famous Zolder circuit in Belgium for round three of the Caterham Tracksport championship where he gained a first and a second place.

After qualifying second on the grid for Saturday’s race, Barnes continued his ongoing battle with impressive Scottish youngster Daniel Bremner.

A close hard-fought race in challenging, damp conditions saw the lead change hands many times. It was Barnes ahead going into the final chicane but he lost out to the fast charging Bremner by 0.019 secs.

He did, however, have the cosnolation of clocking the fastest lap and a new lap record for the class.

Sunday’s race started in extremely hot conditions with temperatures in the 30s. Barnes swept into the lead by the first corner and despite having Bremner glued to his rear throughout the 30-minute race, he managed to outfox his rival to the finish line and win by 0.1 seconds.

Barnes now leads the Caterham Tracksport championship by 10 points with the next round at Snetterton on the 16th and 17th July.

Highlights of the Zolder race will be shown on Channel 4 on Saturday 11th June at 7:30am and on Motors TV on Saturday 11th June at 6:25pm.
