Four martial artists from the city’s Hicks Karate School of Excellence have recently been successful in black belt gradings.
After a tough six-hour examination Sarah Ward and David Cairns gained their 1st Dan black belts while Denas Jankauskas and Isabelle Ramsden earned junior black belts.
They were put through their paces by a panel of examiners which consisted of visitors Sensei Gary Smith (7th Dan) and Sensei Kerry Allsopp (3rd Dan) plus Hicks Karate School instructors Sensei Andrew Hicks (5th Dan) and Atlanta Hickman (3rd Dan).
Other Hicks Karate School instructors present were Martin Hobbs (4th Dan), Rob Van Duyn (1st Dan) and Thomas Malkin (1st Dan).
While Hicks Karate School pride themeslves on their black belt successes they also have an excellent beginners programme.
