Mees just misses out on Inter-Counties title

A talented group of youngsters from Nene Valley Harriers and Peterborough AC did Cambridgeshire proud in the South of England Inter-Counties Championship in Oxford on Sunday (writes Barry Warne).

Daniel Mees of Peterborough AC was the star of the day when taking the runners-up spot in the Under 20 1500m in a competitive 4:09.70. Mees and the eventual winner Stephen Ferroni of Sussex were well ahead of the field, but Ferroni came out on top by less than half a second.

Isaac Huskisson was the pick of the Nene Valley bunch finishing fourth in the Under 20 hammer, while 17 year-old clubmate Oliver Bowling finished eighth in a close fought 800m.

Nene Valley thrower Tierney Augustine threw 9.59m to finish sixth in the shot

For the Under 15s, Peterborough’s Samantha Muchina qualified well for the 100m and 200m finals, in which she completed well in strong fields.

Amber Park just missed out on the 1500m final when finishing fifth in her heat while Georgie Ives Lappin was fifth in her 75m hurdles heat.

The best local performer for the Under 15 girls was Elysia Constanzo with fifth place in the pole vault.

n Peterborough AC all-rounder Harriet Fenton had a good weekend finishing 13th out of 39 competitors in the England Athletics Under 15 Combined Events Championship.
